Ted Gärdestads makalösa genombrott saknar motstycke i svensk pophistoria. Han blev över en natt Sveriges första riktiga tonårsidol. Sverige drabbades av total Ted-feber och hela landet fascinerades av hans glädje, energi, talang och fantastiska låtar. Ted slog igenom som tonåring på 1970-talet. Han blev folkkär och många av hans sånger har blivit svenska klassiker. Filmen om Ted är ett drama som bygger på verkliga händelser. Den skildrar hur Ted slog igenom så stort, så ung och hans starka band till sin storebror Kenneth men filmen berättar samtidigt om Sverige på 1970-talet och om hur det är att vara anhörig till en människa som har svåra psykiska sjukdomar. Adam Pålsson är helt rätt i rollen som Ted Gärdestad, som ung tonåring spritter det i kroppen på honom och hans ögon lyser som de gör på en ung människa – lika trovärdig är han som den plågade Ted Gärdestad som åldrades snabbt. Peter Viitanen spelar Teds storebror Kenneth Gärdestad. Denna storebror som alltid ställde upp, som alltid var beredd att ställa sig i skuggan för att Ted skulle kunna lysa. Det var Kenneth som skrev texterna och Ted som satte musiken. Filmen är en berättelse om en av vår tids största kompositörer, hans orubbliga relation till brodern Kenneth, till musiken och till livet. Teds livsöde kom att beröra en hel nation. Hans musik har på många sätt definierat svensk pop, med genialiska texter av brodern Kenneth, fyllda med liv, kärlek, smärta och hopp.
