Det är en krigsfilm med ett lerigt, iskallt krig i skogen. Den visar ett krig långt från äraoch berömmelse. Det är ett krig som har satt djupa spår i hela den finska nationen. De som inte var föddahar hört berättelser från den äldre generationen.När Väinö Linna 1954 skrev sin bok Okänd soldat låg inte kriget så långt tillbaka i tiden. Nu mer än 60 årsenare har två filmer redan gjorts om boken och det här är den tredje och är Finlands hittills dyraste filmproduktion.OBS!! På DVD-utgåvan ligger orginalversionen på 173 minuter. På Bluray ligger både orgnialversionen á 173 minuter samt den sk europeiska versionen nerkortad till 133 minuter.
