Efter att ha vistats på barnhem sedan hennes mor dog kommer Katitzis pappa plötsligt en dag och hämtar henne. Nu ska hon istället bo med sina äldre syskon och sin vresiga styvmor på familjens kringresande tivoli. Det blir en omtumlande tid kantad av hårt arbete, ständiga flyttningar och rasistiska angrepp. Men också en tid av roliga upptåg och stark sammanhållning som lär henne att aldrig ge upp. Episoderna i filmen heter "Barnhemmet", "Lägret", "Uppbrott", "På egen hand", "Thomas och bröllopet". "Katitzi" är en färgsprakande och stjärnspäckad tv-serie byggd på Katarina Taikons (1932-1995) böcker, lika aktuella nu som då. ”Varenda scen har jag upplevt i verkligheten”, sade författaren som i hela sitt liv kämpade för sitt folks rättigheter. 2015 återlanserades flera av hennes böcker och filmen om hennes liv har biopremiär.
