En film om att växa upp i en liten fiskeby på Island, om att känna sig annorlunda och vilja höra till men samtidigt längta bort – samt om den förtryckande machokulturen. Heartstone är ett avväpnande drama om att växa upp komma ut och bryta samman, en karg och vacker film om vänskap, kärlek och sexualitet i den tidiga puberteten. Regissören Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson utbildade sig till manusförfattare i Danmark, efter en konstutbildning på Island. Hans kortfilmer har visats på över 200 festivaler och har vunnit ett femtiotal internationella priser. Heartstone är hans långfilmsdebut. ”– Jag känner väldigt starkt för den här tiden i livet, säger regissören. Som barn och tonåring brukade jag ofta önska att jag kunde visa de vuxna hur det egentligen var i vår värld. Ungdomsåren har en så stark påverkan på resten av våra liv. Jag hoppas att Heartstone kan förmedla ett viktigt budskap till framför allt unga människor.” Under 2017 har filmen visats på filmfestivaler världen runt och fått (än så länge) hela 34 vinster och ytterligare 19 nomineringar.
